Massage and Bodywork in Vancouver for pain relief?

You’re in pain.  You start asking your friends and family what kinds of massage or body work therapy you should try.  You’re looking for natural pain relief and something that will work with your body.  That is when the list begins:
  • Massage therapy, including deep tissue massage and Thai massage
  • Cranial sacral therapy
  • Acupuncture
  • Bowen
  • Physical Therapy
Then someone says Ortho-Bionomy®.  You say “Ortho-what??”  Then they try to explain it and how good they feel after a session.  Sometimes people are a lot a loss of how to describe it in depth because it is so gentle and can be quite subtle.  Ortho-Bionomy® uses gentle touch and body positioning to negate the neuro-muscular system.  Your body is able to be in comfort as the muscles release, with out digging.  Because of the way that Ortho-Bionomy® interacts with your nervous system, the body is able to make changes, in comfort, and hold those changes for longer.
Ortho-Bionomy® works with the whole body in a holistic way and is often able to get to the root of many issues that other body works are unable to address.  Working with the whole body on this level has helped many clients to feel lasting changes in their body and live with less or no pain.

Massage in Vancouver?

PictureMassage in Vancouver, on the table with Ortho-Bionomy.
Many is the time that people have asked if Ortho-Bionomy® is just like getting a massage.  The answer isn’t what you may expect.
In some ways massage and Ortho-Bionomy® are similar.  You lay on a massage table and the work in touch based.  Clients seek either kind of work for a variety of reasons including pain relief and relaxation.
Ortho-bionomy® is different on some important ways.  Let’s look at a few of them now.
  1. When you’re on the table, you are completely clothed.
  2. Ortho-Bionomy® is focused on working with your body while it is in comfort.  The means NO “bearing through” a painful release.
  3. With Ortho-Bionomy® a knot in the muscle is addressed differently; we move into the knot rather than stretching it out.  Think of untangling a necklace chain and moving the chain into the knot.  This is effective because the body releases more quickly when it is in a position of comfort.
  4. Ortho-Bionomy® is a neuro-muscular work that helps re-educate the body to hold the patterns of comfort and improved function.  (Because of this, Ortho-Bionomy® is classified as a form of bodywork known as Somatic Re-education.) I often talk about this as the body finding “factory reset” or a reboot.  People start to feel better for longer and longer between sessions as the body re-orients on these patterns of comfort.
The short answer to “Is this like massage?” No, it’s very different.

Will Ortho-Bionomy Help me?

With something so beautiful and so sophisticated as the human body, it is no wonder that artists have been moved to draw, sculpt, and paint the body over the centuries. This marvelous creation is something that we all live with and use every day, often with little thought about the wonder that is the body.  Then something happens, and our body isn’t working as well as we expect.

I often hear from people when they are in pain or feel like they need another option.  I will get asked if Ortho-Bionomy is likely to help them with their situation. The answer is almost invariably, “Yes.”
I don’t say this out of vanity or blind belief in what I am doing.  I had felt what Ortho-Bionomy could do for a body when I thought that I didn’t have many alternatives left to treat pain.  I have also seen Ortho-Bionomy help people with body’s that are dying.
When I was doing my student work in Ortho-Bionomy, I worked with a family member that had a vascular disease that caused the blood vessels to break down.  The result of this was that the tips of their fingers began to die.  The nerve pain was excruciating.  When this occurred, I had only taken one class, Spine, Neck & Shoulders.  That meant that I had no idea how to work with hands, even if those hands could be touched without causing a new level of pain.  I did what I knew how to do and worked in the shoulders and upper back because the paths of the nervous system and the circulatory system pass through this region to the arms and hands.  Then I hoped for the best.  Ortho-Bionomy helped relieve the nerve pain in the hands and fingers.  It seemed like a miracle.
That experience is what made me decide that I needed to share Ortho-Bionomy with more people.  If I could help a person who had body parts that were dying, then I could help others who weren’t in such dire states.  Over the years, I have seen Ortho-Bionomy continue to help people feel better and live their lives with increased comfort and increased function.
I love doing this work because of the positive effects it has on those I work with. Next time you ask, please don’t be surprised by my enthusiasm when I say “Yes, Ortho-Bionomy can help you.”

If you haven’t experienced Ortho-Bionomy yet, try it.  If you have friends and family members who need Ortho-Bionomy in their lives, send them in.  I have gift certificates available, and I offer a great referral program ($20 towards your future appointments for every referral.)
